Privacy Policy

The BalanceTab — Gamer + Office extension is designed with privacy as a core principle. Here is how your data is handled:

Local Storage Only

All settings, notebook entries, and high scores created within this extension are stored locally on your device using the Chrome Storage API. No data is ever transmitted to, or stored on, our servers.

Permissions & Usage

• storage / unlimitedStorage: Used to save your settings, notebook entries, game high scores, and custom background images or videos locally on your device. Extended storage is required to support user-uploaded media files.
• tabs / sessions: Used to display your recently closed and open tabs within the dashboard widget.
• geolocation: Used to fetch your precise location for weather data via the Open-Meteo API.
• search: Used to route search queries through your browser's default search engine via the Chrome Search API. No query data is sent to the extension developer.
• suggestqueries.google.com (host permission): As you type in the search bar, your partial query is sent to Google's public autocomplete API to show suggestions — the same mechanism Chrome's own address bar uses. This only happens while you are actively typing a search.

No Tracking

We do not use any tracking, analytics, or cookies. We do not collect any personally identifiable information (PII).

Third-Party Services

BalanceTab interacts with the following services to provide its core features:

• Open-Meteo API: For real-time weather data based on your location coordinates.
• ipinfo.io: To resolve your approximate city name for the weather display. Your IP address is sent to this service to determine your city. No personal data beyond your IP is shared.
• Google Search Suggestions: See above — used only while typing in the search bar.
• Google Fonts: To provide custom typography.
• Favicon lookup services (Google, DuckDuckGo): The "All AI Tools" list shows the logo of each AI site. To do this, the domain name of that fixed, built-in list of sites (e.g. claude.ai, chatgpt.com) is sent to Google's and DuckDuckGo's public favicon services. No personal data, browsing history, or information about your own shortcuts is included in these requests. Icons for your own custom shortcuts and Recent Tabs use Chrome's built-in favicon cache and never leave your device.
