Privacy Policy

Summary: GameValue does not sell your data, does not track you across sites, and has no user accounts. Your settings, saved profiles, wishlist and library stay in your own browser. Two optional features send game data to our server, which forwards it to an AI provider — those are described in full below.

1. Information We Process

Steam profile URL: If you paste a public Steam profile link, it is sent to our server, which resolves it to your public Steam ID and fetches your public game list and playtime via the Steam Web API. We do not store it on the server.
Wishlist & preferences: Tracked wishlist items, currency, region and layout choices are saved with Chrome's storage API. Settings use chrome.storage.sync, so Chrome copies them between devices signed in to your Google account. Library, wishlist and profile data use chrome.storage.local and never leave your device except as described in section 3.
Text you paste into the Smart Text Importer: Sent to our server and on to an AI provider to pull out game titles.
Avatar images you upload: Stored locally in your browser only. Never uploaded.

We do not collect names, email addresses, passwords, payment details, location, or browsing history. GameValue has no analytics and no advertising.

2. How We Use Data

Calculate Buy-Scores by comparing current prices to historical lows.
Hide games you already own from deal suggestions, when that setting is on.
Generate personalized recommendations from the titles you have played.
Notify you when a wishlisted game drops in price.

3. Third Parties & AI Processing

GameValue talks to these services:

Steam Store API and Steam Web API (Valve Corporation) — public game details, prices and public library data. Requests carry game IDs and, when you use the library feature, your public Steam ID.
CheapShark API — price comparison and historical low data. Requests carry game IDs and search terms only.
GameValue proxy server (hosted on Render) — holds our API keys so they are never shipped in the extension, and rate-limits abuse by IP. Your IP address is visible to it as with any web request. We do not log or retain request contents.
Groq — the AI provider behind the "Ask AI" recommendations and the Smart Text Importer. When you use one of those two features, our proxy sends Groq a short list of game titles and playtime hours from your library plus the current deal list, or the text you pasted. No identifiers are attached: Groq does not receive your Steam ID, your profile URL, your IP address, or anything that identifies you. Their handling of that data is governed by Groq's privacy policy. If you never use those two features, nothing is ever sent to Groq.

Wishlist price alerts: When enabled, the extension asks Steam for the current price of your wishlisted games roughly every six hours and shows a notification if one drops. Only game IDs and a country code are sent. Turn it off in Settings.

Uninstall feedback: If you remove GameValue, Chrome opens a farewell page with an optional feedback form. It is entirely voluntary. If you choose to submit it, the reason you picked and any comment you type are emailed to the developer through FormSubmit. Nothing is attached to it and nothing is sent if you close the page without submitting.

4. Data Retention & Your Control

Our server keeps nothing. It holds no database and stores no request contents; the only thing it retains is a short-lived in-memory count of requests per IP for rate limiting, which is discarded within 15 minutes.

Everything else lives in your browser. You can delete saved profiles at any time under Settings > Accounts, and removing the extension from Chrome erases all of its stored data.

5. Children

GameValue is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly process their data.

GameValue is an independent project. Steam and the Steam logo are trademarks of Valve Corporation. GameValue is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Valve Corporation.

7. Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes materially, the "Last Updated" date above will change and the revised policy will be posted at this URL before the change takes effect.
